Structural Elucidation of Metabolites

Creative Proteomics has a long history of metabolite identification research and can accurately analyze hundreds to thousands of metabolites. We provide structural elucidation services for known and unknown metabolites by combining mass spectrometry with other biotechnologies.

Structural elucidation of metabolites, which is important in the study of natural products and drug discovery, is a technically challenging task. For the structural elucidation of metabolites, various mass spectrometry facilities such as liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), etc. are commonly used. The detection data obtained by the mass spectrometry facilities are used to obtain the molecular formulae and predicted structures of the metabolites by using bioinformatics analysis software and comparing metabolite molecular databases.

Service Content of Structural Elucidation of Metabolites

The lack of an effective library of common standard spectra has led to difficulties in identifying the structures of a large number of metabolites detected. This limits the application of structural resolution of metabolites, restricts the improvement of metabolomics coverage and biomarker discovery, causes serious loss of chemical and biological information, and becomes a major technical bottleneck in the development of metabolomics. However, Creative Proteomics has conquered this challenge. With advances in mass spectrometry instrumentation and computer technology, we use techniques such as atmospheric pressure ionization mass spectrometry (API-MS) and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) to detect metabolites and then combine them with our database and commercial databases to resolve the structure of metabolites.

Requirements for Samples

  • We can pre-treat the sample tissue to obtain the metabolites.
  • Number of cell samples > 107.
  • Animal tissue samples > 150 mg, plant tissue samples > 200 mg.
  • Liquid samples > 0.2 mL, urine samples > 0.5 mL (add 10 µL of sodium azide at 1% mass volume).
  • Do not repeatedly freeze-thaw samples. Use an adequate amount of dry ice for transport.
  • Please provide the specific concentration, volume, preparation time, and source for each sample. And give information about the samples and the control and experimental samples (if grouped, describe in detail the group analysis information.).
